The Story
It was a vital part in every English class in middle and high school.
We fell in love with Ponyboy Curtis, we went on an emotional rollercoaster of youth with him, and even identified with some of the challenges Ponyboy, Johnny Cade, Dally Winston, Darry Curtis, and the others came face to face with. We dreamt about a better life with them, we walked the road of brutality, addiction, misery, and socio-economic struggles alongside them, with the storyline and themes hitting us where it matters.
Add a dash of that Americana sound to the nostalgic classic, stir it with almost otherworldly talent, pepper it with a courageous, gut-punching take, and top it with a healthy dose of exhilarating choreography and high-powered visual vignettes, and you have a must-see musical production that remains loyal to the literary legacy, with an award-shelf groaning heavily under the load of some of the most sought-after awards, including four Tony Awards, an Outer Critics Circle Award, two Drama Desk Awards, a Theatre World Award, and a Chita Rivera Award.
